For mom, actress, host, and co-owner of Century Oak Winery Tamera Mowry-Housley, faith and a positive attitude fuel the day-to-day. “I like to look at things like, ‘I’m lucky I get to do this,’” the Emmy award–winner shares. “Leading with gratitude makes life better.”

Faith First

Wellness is a lifestyle—and it starts from the inside. If you know me, you know how important my faith is. That’s how I start my day; I align myself with prayer, and then I allow myself quiet time to get my thoughts in order.”

Quiet Place

“Our family is trying to stay away from being too much on all the social media stuff. You can so easily waste 45 minutes of your day looking at it and, as a society, we’ve developed some dependency on it. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can’t be the main thing.”

Day Break

“It’s very important for me to make breakfast for my kids. I really enjoy that time and giving my kids and my husband a little inspirational word for the day, or an inspirational task for the day. We all have conversations before we get in our car and start our individual journeys.”

Meal Plan

“I am so grateful to have adopted the agriculture culture in Napa Valley, where we live. It is such a blessing to live there! Everything is pretty much farm-to-table—we have amazing food, amazing wine. We’re very cognizant of what we’re putting in our body, but again, I am all about balance. We are home-cooked meal people—my kids know how to cook, my husband is a great cook, I love to cook—so that is an important part of our life…but when we have a day where we can’t get to it, we’ll go to a restaurant and we’ll splurge on some sweets.”

Fit Club

Exercise is huge for me; I’m learning, as a mother, that I want to set the example for my kids. I try to work out six days a week. Now that I am 45-years-old, I exercise for health and vitality. When I was younger, it was mostly all about vanity! Now, it’s about keeping up with my children. I want to be there for them when they need me. I want to be able to move.”

Stretch Game

“Beyond working out, I’ve also learned the importance of stretching and just activating my body—even if it’s for 15 minutes. It’s important, and stretching is good. My kids see that I try to move my body every day. As a result, the endorphins kick in, I am happier, I feel healthier and I’m less stressed. I’m big on starting at a young age—so you get to a point of wanting to do it and you enjoy doing it.”

App Life

I am so grateful that I get to work out. It feels good. I love the Obé app. My former agent actually started it. It’s all about obeying your body and—since it’s an app—you can use it anywhere. There’s never an excuse for you not to move your body. I also love dancing. That’s how I get my cardio in. I like to get some cardio every single day.”

Rest Full

“I also like to rest. I love living the 80-20 lifestyle. Because, at one point, it was 100, 100, 100 for me—which was not good. When you’re always at 100, it’s easy to go 100, 100, 100 the unhealthy way, too. If you do 80-percent healthy, and then you do the 20 percent where you indulge a little bit, you feel the difference in your mood, you feel it in your energy, you feel it in your skin. And then you’re always excited to go back to the 80.”

Self-Care Sundays

“Skin and hair are both very important to me. It’s never too early to do facials. I’ve been doing facials, I want to say, since I was 17! For me, you’ve always got to have a vitamin C serum, you have to be moisturized, use SPF, and exfoliate at least once a week. Same thing with my hair. Exfoliate your hair! Do masks on your hair! I love Scunci products, and my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been because I really, really, really got into it. Every Sunday is the self-care day where I do the facial masks, I do the hair masks, I do the exfoliation, the oatmeal masks, the bubble baths. I do all of that. I just love on myself.”
