Jennifer Lopez’s 14 Most Iconic Looks Through the Ages
By Emily Taylor |
Few people get the honor of living in hairstyle infamy. Who among us has originated a look more iconic than "the Rachel" or the original Bieber? And what about those mane mavens known best for switching up their looks? Well, as one of the main sources of hair inspiration, we present to you Jennifer Lopez: queen of the charts, supreme overlord of the dance floor, and master of keeping us on our toes when it comes to a new 'do.

From sporting cropped curls for the tv show, Shades of Blue, to rocking 50 inch-long hair extensions for the Billboard Latin American Music Awards in April, J. Lo has done it all. Here we've narrowed it down to her top 14 hairstyles so you don't have to. (Trust us, it wasn't easy...)
The year 2011 was a busy one for J. Lo. She released her seventh studio album (raise your hand if you still have On the Floor ft. Pitbull on repeat), debuted as a judge on American Idol, launched several lines of goodies (fragrance, clothing and accessories with Tommy Hilfiger, and the Jennifer Lopez Home Collection), and had a hair look that refused to quit, too. As a result, these textured tresses from that year are perfectly volumized and the best way to kick off our list of faves.
Look up the phrase "old Hollywood glamour" in any dictionary and this is the picture you'll find next to it. Lopez's effortlessly side-swept waves from the 2013 Golden Globes have the classics (and us) green with envy. Paired with a metallic smoky eye and slightly peachy lips, Lopez looks like a dream.
For the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, J.Lo rocked a pretty pony with curled ends that we consider best in show. We're obsessed with this honey chestnut color on Lopez and believe this look is a head above the rest.
Send help! Lopez's oil slick strands have us seriously questioning whether or not we're living in some hidden part of the matrix where everyone looks like they live in a shampoo commercial 24/7. This simple yet sophisticated middle part from the Latin Grammy Awards 2016 has us screaming, "long hair, do care."
We might as well stop the slideshow right here because this picture is proof positive that J. Lo can take anything mortal—like a post-pilates bun for example—and elevate it to high fashion. This top knot from an episode of World of Dance receives the highest marks from us (and has us rethinking our workout looks).
We're just going to come right out and say it: We've seen some incredible plaits over the years, but this beautiful braid has us begging for more. With Rapunzel-esque extensions and tons of volume, this style has a well-earned spot on the list of best looks.
One of Lopez's own fave looks from last year (according to her Instagram) is this ultra-long hairdo from the 2017 Grammy Awards. She may not have been nominated for an award last year, but we say J. Lo definitely wins best in beauty.
We love Lopez for many reasons: her entrepreneurial prowess, her insatiable hustle, and her other-worldly ability to sport a sky-high ponytail and not look 12 years old. We're wild for this update on the patent-pending "Jennifer Lopez High Pony." Just by adding a couple of inches for last year's Met Gala, her mane look is taken to a whole new level.
One look at this insta post, and we're instantly transported into a Bond movie. In our minds, J. Lo wears this sleek updo as she slowly slinks through a casino somewhere in Asia, dry martini (shaken, not stirred) in one hand and a dangerous plan to take down a rogue spy in the other—but really she's probably just getting groceries.
Ending on a high note, these choppy locks from this year's Billboard Awards are anything but clean cut. Jenny brought her A-game with this tousled, asymmetrical lob and has us ready for the standing ovation.
We can't wait to see what the goddess/queen of hair does next! Did we miss any of J. Lo's Best looks? Let us know in the comments!
