Pregnancy brings about tons of changes to your body, especially to your skin, and celebs like Rihanna are no exception to the rule. Throughout Rihanna’s pregnancy with her now one-year-old son RZA, the singer made headlines for her array of fierce outfits that showed off her bump and proved that pregnancy doesn’t have to change the way you present yourself. But, in a recent interview with E!, RiRi’s makeup artist, Priscilla Ono, got real about the skin changes the singer faced throughout her term.

Ono on skin after pregnancy

“When I first started with her, she was cool about skin care,” begins the We Found Love singer’s makeup artist. “She always took care of her face—more than a lot of others—but I’ve seen her go even further now.” Ono went on to explain how, throughout her pregnancy with RZA, Rihanna noticed changes in her skin texture that led to revelations in her skin-care routine. “After pregnancy, you’re not as hydrated anymore,” Ono explains, “So, Rihanna’s always thinking of ways to take care of her skin.”

Ono on makeup tricks for sleepless nights

Another unavoidable side effect of the early years of motherhood? Sleepless nights, and Rihanna has become more than familiar with having to be up and running with not enough rest. Ono explained that Ri’s makeup routine has also changed slightly to accommodate for those restless evenings. “Rihanna has said she needs something to cover up that no-sleep,” Ono explains, “She loves the Pro Filt’r Concealer ($30)—that’s all we use. And I think that’s her number-one issue when it comes to complexion is under-eye circles.”

A good concealer goes a long way, but Ono also noted that a tried-and-true setting powder is another non-negotiable for Rihanna’s routine as a new mama. “We use Invisimatte ($36), a blotting powder, as an under-eye setting powder before putting any loose powder,” she says. “It sets it, but also smooths and blurs, so you’re not using as much of the other powder, which usually looks cakey. It makes your under eyes look so smooth and refined.”

As her lifestyle has changed, Rihanna has found the Invisimatte to be a must-have product. “Riri can’t leave without her Invisimatte,” Ono says. “She must have about 50 in her room because every time I do her makeup, I give her one for her touch-up bag.”
