The bob is the biggest hair trend of the year. So many celebs are rocking the chop on the red carpet and just as many people following in their footsteps at home. It seems the bob does have one adversary though. Kelly Ripa recently explained the reason she doesn’t feel comfortable jumping on the bob trend, and it’s personal.

Why Kelly Ripa won’t get a bob anytime soon

During the January 17 episode of Live with Kelly & Mark, Ripa told her husband and cohost, Mark Consuelos, that she regrets cutting her hair short every time she does it. “I want to get a haircut until I get the haircut,” said Ripa, who has been burned by a bob before. “Because once I get the haircut, then I have to maintain the haircut. And when your hair is this length, this is a good ponytail length. So when I come to work, my hair is done for me, and it looks nice.”

Ripa recalls a time she did opt for a bob after Consuelos encouraged her to get a Michelle Pfeiffer-inspired haircut. Unfortunately, Ripa’s bob was giving more 70s housewife than blonde bombshell movie star. “It ended up looking like Carol Brady, and I just didn’t understand how it happened,” Consuelos says of his wife’s hair. Now, Conseulos tries to stay out of Ripa’s hair decisions. However, he does warn her that if she goes rogue and does a big chop, she’ll likely be miserable again. Naturally, this tends to discourage her from giving the bob another try.

Ripa praised the “flippy bob” trend swirling around Hollywood right now. She refers to it as a bixie cut—a cross between a pixie cut and a bob. While she says “all of the women look adorable,” she’s not sure she’d get the same results.

The star wants to see more realistic representations of bobs. “I want them to show me the picture of these women out in the wild, on their own, not under the aid of a hairstylist after they’ve woken up in the morning and show me what the hair looks like,” she says.
