Chrissy Teigen is notoriously not one to hold back, but she’s been tight-lipped about one thing for almost 15 years: “I did my boobs when I was about 20 years old,” the 34-year-old model revealed to Glamour UK, a topic she’s never spoken about before. “It was more for a swimsuit thing. I thought, if I’m going to be posing, laid on my back, I want them to be perky!”

“Happy ‘now you know I got my boobs done when I was 20’ day!!!” the comedian shared on her Instagram, revealing her new cover with the magazine. “Talk about a weight lifted off my chest!!!”

In the interview, Teigen says things have definitely changed since her breast augmentation. “But then you have babies and they fill up with milk and deflate and now I am screwed,” she shared candidly. Old Lyme, CT plastic surgeon Vinod V. Pathy, MD reminds us that every patient responds differently to pregnancy and breast fluctuation as far as size and skin elasticity. “The implant ‘pocket’ location, such as under or above the chest muscle, can also play a role in post-pregnancy contours and their predictability,” adds Dr. Pathy.

However, the implants Teigen opted for weren’t a cup or two larger. “I kept them the same cup size. I just filled them out, so they are rounder and firmer,” she said. “I had a quarter ‘teardrop’ cup in the bottom and filled out the breast line. But I want them out now. If I could do one thing, it would be to have a lift.”

San Diego, CA plastic surgeon Larry Pollack, MD says a breast lift is a common request from mothers who have previously opted for a breast augmentation. “Breast augmentation can hold up quite well during and after pregnancy…but genetics also plays a role, and some women are prone to ptosis, or breast sagging, after pregnancy. A breast lift will treat that.”

Teigen continues: “I think you’re supposed to replace [implants] every ten years. But when you have kids you think about [the risks] of surgery and I think, ‘This is not the way I want to die, in boob surgery.’”

But before every woman in America panics, Dr. Pollack settles the score: “There is no need to replace implants after 10 years. The FDA recommends changing implants after 10 years if you are having another breast surgery, like a lift. Otherwise, you only need to replace them if they rupture.” Dr. Pathy adds: “While it is true that some form of revision procedure may be required by [the 10-year mark], the vast majority of patients can leave their perfectly fine implants in place, even at 10 years or longer, provided they have proper monitoring and follow-up.”
