If you have acne-prone skin, you’re probably picky about which makeup products you choose to apply to it to keep future breakouts at bay. The same goes for those with relatively clear skin—the thought of what’s seeping into your pores throughout the day is a troubling one for anybody. But an interesting new find is going viral for its ability to create an actual shield between your skin and your makeup to prevent any product from actually touching your skin (and causing any related irritation).
The Direcsil Face Shield Patch ($15.50) is a Korean-based product that claims to refresh skin while delivering a “second-skin.” The tube describes the product as a “face shield patch that protects skin from direct contact with makeup by covering the skin with a transparent, protective film.” While it’s not a primer, it is intended to be applied before your foundation so it doesn’t settle into your pores. According to various reviews, the clear gel feels more like a glue or hair gel than your typical makeup primer, and you can apply it either all over your face (though we’ve learned this would use up the majority of the bottle) or where your larger pores live and around more acne-prone areas.

Once the gel dries, you’re cleared to apply your foundation and rest of your makeup as usual. Come the end of the night, you’re then able to peel off the areas where you applied the Shield to see that no makeup actually touched your skin. The reviews online are mixed, but you can be the judge. (Protecting skin from stressors is always a win in our book.)
