Why Carrie Underwood’s Recent Facial Surgery Is Causing So Much Controversy

Carrie Underwood made her first public appearance last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards since her accident last year. Back in November, the country singer fell on her steps at home, which left her with a broken wrist and face injuries that required 40-50 stitches.

For months, the country singer has been updating fans on her health and slow recovery. "When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different," she wrote on her site. Throughout, she’s kept herself pretty much out of public view except for an Instagram she shared last week that showed half of her face.

So when she stepped out Sunday night for the awards show with her face looking pretty much exactly the same, some fans were not happy.

"It literally makes me sick that Carrie Underwood made such a big deal about her face needing stitches," one Twitter user wrote. "Maybe she should come visit my work where people face actual traumatic injuries that are life altering. #perspective."

This idea was shared among many other twitter users as well.

Even after facing the backlash, the country star went on to give an emotional performance of her newest song Cry Pretty, which was followed by a standing ovation.

Underwood has not yet publicly commented on the criticism.

I'm not such a big fan anymore. I feel what she did was deceiving & superficial. There are people with real scars & disfigurements to their faces. She should be ashamed of leading the public to believe she had actually suffered a serious accident that resulted in her face maybe "looking different ". Very vain.

Yes, Carrie Underwood had scheduled, planned plastic surgery to improve her looks! She now looks like a gorgeous, beautiful runway model, Carrie looks much different now and looked very beautiful on American Idol this year. I wish she didn't play this silly slow reveal game that she did. Carrie is much more beautiful now than she was when she was younger with this planned plastic surgery and why not do it?!!! The results are quite impressive. Remember when Simon Cowell said he didn't think Carrie Underwood was beautiful to him, he wished she was prettier when she won American Idol? I think Carrie felt she wasn't pretty enough all these years since then because of Simon's crude comments but look at the very beautiful Carrie Underwood now!

Any accident to the face is trauma. She knows her face like no one else. Cruel to give her a hard time. Imagine getting 30 to 40 stitches on your face. It's a good thing we don't notice a difference. I'm sure people would say something then too. Praise to her Aesthetic doctor.

I wonder if she actually had some type of cosmetic surgery and was just preparing people that she might look "different" from an accident. The way nose jobs always used to be (and still are) because of deviated septum haha. She doesn't look any different.

Feel kinda sorry for Carrie after reading this? Everyone handles things differently. No need to bring such hate into it. The world is full of enough hate, I'm sure she didn't intend to cause such negative reactions or hurt anyone by it.. As the old saying goes "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
