Anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with mini things, or squatty things as I call them. They also know avocado toast is one of my main food groups. So needless to say when I heard that mini avocados existed, I spent about 20 googly-eyed minutes staring at Instagram photos, and they are just as cute as you’d think. Plus, some nutritionists are saying they actually serve a good purpose.
How come? Half an avocado a day provides a good dose of the fruit’s “healthy” fats, but any more than that can be too much according to many nutrition pros. Either way, the health benefits of this superfood are clear. “Avocado is loaded with potassium, fiber and healthy monounsaturated fats that protect the heart, and nutrients such as oleic acid, lutein, folate, and vitamin E that deliver protective benefits to the eyes and brain,” says Dr. Marsha Nunley, internal medicine doctor and founder of H.E.A.L. Medical. “Eating avocados can reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels.”

Big in the UK—retailer Marks & Spencer started selling them back in January—these “babycados” are causing quite the stir in places like California where they’re being sold at Farmers’ Markets. Food and Wine says they’re about the size of an egg and weigh in at about 2 ounces. Adorable!
Please bring them to the East Coast!
