Launch List: The Best Hair Care Launching in May

Launch List: The Best Hair Care Launching in May featured image

Hundreds of products come across our desks every month, but not all of them deliver on their claims or live up to the hype. (Not everything that goes viral on TikTok is a miracle worker.) This is our exclusive curation of the best-in-class hair-care products receiving rave reviews from our team and hitting shelves right now.

1 / 10

Triviso Frizz Smacker ($19)

I am a big fan of frizz-taming “mascaras,” as I always get the dreaded breakage along my root line and around my face, which drive me nuts (and don’t look so hot either). This new serum is a purse essential for three reasons: It’s infused with nourishing watermelon extract, avocado oil and jojoba oil, but not greasy in the least; it polishes up a slicked-back bun in seconds flat; and it’s neon pink, so you can easily spot it in your handbag.

2 / 10

Limited-Edition Moroccanoil Jumbo Luminous Hairspray ($26)

The brand’s beloved hairspray is now bigger than ever before—45-percent bigger to be exact—but for a limited time only, so grab your favorite formula (Medium, Strong or Extra Strong) while you can! What I love is the signature scent that lingers in my hair all day, the frizz-fighting properties, especially during the summer time when I want my waves to stay in place, and the fact that my hair is still super soft and not crunchy at all, even after several sprays.

dpHUE ACV Daily Scalp Serum ($49)

A favorite among both men and women, this serum—infused with the brand’s signature apple cider vinegar ingredient—helps gently exfoliate the scalp to keep hair follicles unclogged for reduced shedding and improved hair growth. It’s also oil-free (so strands aren’t a greasy mess afterward), and safe for color-treated hair.

“To see visible results, use it consistently!” says dpHUE cofounder Justin Anderson, who is Kristin Cavallari’s mane man. “I apply it every evening so it can work overnight.” To use, section your hair when it’s dry or damp and apply the serum down your part between each section, and then massage it in.

4 / 10

Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Styler ($16)

Celebrity hairstylists love the way this lightweight brush grabs every little hair: Clayton Hawkins used it on Olivia Rodrigo’s shiny, cascading waves at this year’s Grammys, and Chris Appleton used it to tame Kim Kardashian’s sleek, high pony at this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Its patented design features a combination of short and long bristles for extra control and shine during styling. Pictured here is Peach Glow; it also comes in Jet Black, two-toned Sweet Pink and Millennial Pink.

5 / 10

Naturally Drenched Watermelon Dreams The Absolute Oil ($38)

Warm a few drops of this cold-pressed, 100-percent Kalahari melon seed oil in the palm of your hand and then apply from the mid-lengths down (you can also use it on your face, neck or body if you’re craving more moisture). It’s light enough that it won’t weigh down the hair, yet so rich with nourishing omega-6 fatty acids, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

6 / 10

amika Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment ($28)

We make sure to put night cream on our skin before bed, so why not our hair too? This creamy, vegan overnight treatment utilizes hyaluronic acid, coconut water, blue algae and the brand’s signature ingredient sea buckthorn to deliver mega moisture to all hair types (and zero greasiness).

Apply up to four pumps on dry or damp hair from the mid-lengths down, depending on the length and texture of your hair, and comb through. (For me, I use it on damp hair before bed and it helps tame my natural wave pattern so I can actually avoid a blowdry without looking crazy.) And in the morning, you don’t even need to rinse it out—just bask in the glory of your smooth, renewed, soft-as-ever strands.

7 / 10

CHI Vibes “On the Edge” Hairstyling Iron ($100)

Though I’m not one to flat iron my hair much anymore—my go-to style is a beachy wave, courtesy of a curling iron—I appreciate when brands innovate to fix a common problem. This tool features 1-inch ceramic plates that curve to the outer edges, allowing you to finally get closer to your scalp so you can tame your roots and smooth stubborn hairline frizzies. And if you’re someone who uses a flat iron to curl your hair, the rounded edges also help you avoid the dreaded curl crease (we’ve all been there). How fun is the pastel-inspired, multicolor design too?

8 / 10

OUAI Thick & Full Supplements ($42 for 30-day supply; $36 for refill pouch)

A daily vegan supplement for thinning hair, each flavorless capsule boasts a potent blend of strengthening biotin, pea sprout extract for less shedding, and a Multivitamin Complex to support the overall health of every strand. You only need one capsule per day, and you can take it on an empty stomach, which is convenient if you’re always on the go.

“Scalp health is so important to the overall health of your hair,” says OUAI founder and celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, noting that results of the supplements can usually be seen in 60 days. “Think of your scalp as the soil in a garden—you need to tend to the soil for everything to grow. The Thick & Full Supplements are key to keeping hair follicles clear and healthy, which can help promote hair strength. By keeping the skin on your scalp hydrated and soothed from the inside out, you’re supporting an environment for healthy hair growth, stronger strands and less shedding.”

9 / 10

Briogeo Banana + Coconut Soft Wave Texture Spray ($24; Launching on May 23 at Sephora)

I got my hands on this a couple months ago and let me just say, this coconut sugar– and tropical fruit–infused texturizing spray is summer vacation in a bottle! If your natural waves are looking lackluster and falling a bit limp, spritz this on dry or damp hair and scrunch or twist to your heart’s content. The best part, it creates that piecey, tousled look we all crave, but without the drying alcohols and salts that are in many other wave sprays. It’s also safe for color-treated and chemically treated hair, including keratin and relaxed styles.

10 / 10

KEVIN.MURPHY Everlasting.Colour Wash Leave-In ($19)

I’m a big fan of leave-in conditioners for cutting time from my shower routine and improving manageability during styling (I often love the lighter feel versus a traditional cream rinse-out conditioner). This one is great because it offers the usual benefits of a leave-in, like detangling and nourishing, but goes the extra mile for those of us with color-treated hair to offer bond-building and color-locking perks.

It’s especially great for the summer months, as its Illuminate and Chromatic Complexes help create a thermal shield on the hair to shut out damage from UV rays, which also leads to color fading.
