Comparing Facelifts

Modern facelifts have been around since the 1950s, and limited lifts were born in the 1990s. But this decade has seen the introduction of an entirely new category of rejuvenation designed to lift off the years: suspension lifts. “We are evolving toward a spectrum of facial-rejuvenation procedures and products that range from totally noninvasive technologies to full, open facelifts that will probably always have a place,” says plastic surgeon Felmont Eaves, MD, of Charlotte, North Carolina. “When and where each technology and procedure fits best and in what combinations is still evolving but I think that the future is bright. We have ever-expanding options to customize facial rejuvenation based on a patient’s specific needs, limitations, desires, anatomy and circumstances.” Reston, Virginia, plastic surgeon Robert Sigel, MD, agrees that facial rejuvenation should be tailored to each individual patient. “A natural, youthful outcome is the result of a holistic approach. Skilled surgeons know what they can or can’t accomplish by the various procedures they’re comfortable using, and will recommend appropriate rejuvenation techniques to produce a harmonious picture.”

“I want the least invasive lift.”: The Threadlift

The suspension lift may be for you if you are looking for a one- to two-year fix to achieve a higher brow, soften a sagging midface and marionette lines, or refine a drooping jowl. Suspension lifts use specially designed sutures or threads to hold slack skin in a higher position for subtle softening of the signs of aging.

“I’m not ready for a full facelift.”: A Limited Lift

The limited lift is for those who have a limited amount of excess sagging skin, and limited concerns of the brow, mid-face and sometimes the neck. If your aging concerns are confined to the mid-face area, a limited lift may be able to provide the results you’re looking for with minimal scarring.

“I want to look ten years younger.”: A Full Facelift

The limited lift is for those who have a limited amount of excess sagging skin, and limited concerns of the brow, mid-face and sometimes the neck. The traditional, full facelift is the only way to address signs of aging from the forehead to the neck, and all areas in between, providing dramatic results that can take seven to ten years off your face.
