During Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May, Olay and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery will present their Skin Cancer Takes Friends campaign, headed by this year’s spokesperson, Desperate Housewives‘ Marcia Cross.
Cross is an appropriate choice for spokesperson not only because of her beautifully fair skin, but because two members of her own family have had melanoma. “I’ve come to understand the importance of skin cancer detection and protection,” she said. “Knowing what I know about the dangers of sun exposure, I take extra care to protect myself with a large hat, sunglasses, daily UV protection, and of course, an annual screening.”
Dermatologists nationwide are volunteering to provide free skin cancer screenings throughout May, June and July. Starting in April, you can log onto skincancertakesfriends.org to find one in your area who is participating in the campaign.
