When Jackie Kim launched her “passion project” Moonlight Retinal Super Serum back in October, she anticipated it would be popular. Not only did the Maelove founder specifically create the product after receiving more than 25,000 customer requests for it, but she was especially proud of the fact that she was able to release a retinol that worked with the notoriously hard-to-deal-with ingredient of retinaldehyde in a way that kept the formula stable and potent, all while infusing it with hydrating ingredients.
Kim was spot-on with her assumption, selling through an initial stock of more 7,600 bottles in less than six days—which breaks down to one bottle of Moonlight every minute for five days straight in the days after the launch. The new-year stats were even more impressive, as the brand shares there is currently a 42K wait list for the serum and now, “after many delays in the lab,” there’s finally an official re-stock slated on the calendar for Friday, May 14.
“People took notice of this one,” Kim shares. “Too much retinol is counterproductive, and a lot of people are scared of it, but we kept sensitive skin in mind when we did this. The time-released, stabilized retinaldehyde at 0.11-percent concentration is what makes it different, as does the skin-soothing blend of blend of nourishers like niacinamide, bisabolol, ceramide, tea extracts, hyaluronic acid and squalene.”
While we can’t completely divulge what’s next for Kim’s portfolio, we can share that she has plans to roll out a full “retinol collection” for the brand, with new launches (and those corresponding wait lists) slated soon.
