Do you change you hair color with the seasons? Switch up your style when a certain time of the year hits? We may only be on the forefront of fall, but there’s one hair trend that seems to be ushering in the winter months, and it’s—coincidentally—an almost all-too-perfect play on the weather.
“Ice hair color is still an incoming trend—with winter seeing a big increase in this frosty shade,” says stylist Kate Reid, director of COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY, adding that she thinks the rose-gold shade is still going strong, while the denim hair color trend is nudging its way in silently.

“There are a lot of celebrities rocking the ice and platinum-blond hair trend at the moment. Celebs like Taylor Swift going lighter and Kylie Jenner doing a complete 180 to have platinum blond hair, and, most recently, Sofia Richie as well,” says celeb stylist Heather Cie of Cie Sparks Salon in Malibu. “It’s an iconic trend, dating back to Madonna in the 1980’s and even Marilyn Monroe that is both bright and attention-grabbing, but can also look very sleek and glamorous when styled appropriately.”
While Reid says ice is best worn on cool to neutral skin tones (and it really makes blue eyes pop and brings out the soft pink in your cheeks!), she also points out that having gray hair is a great starting point for this particular color. “Gray hair is almost like working with white paint, so it opens up a whole realm of possibilities.”

One big thing to note: This is one color that may have a tendency to cause breakage and the hair to dry out. “Bleach is damaging so keep hair moisturized to prevent damage,” Cie says. “I would highlight using a product called Olaplex, as it creates dimension instead of that flat look and help break it up the tones.” Adds Reid, “Seek expert advice. Knowing your previous color history and shade suitability are musts. Your colorist will be able to lead you in the right direction. Walking out the door with a great color is good but maintaining it at home is just as important.”
