The bigger the better when it comes to hair volume these days. We’ve made our way through the various volumizing products, from sprays to brushes, but there’s a new trend taking over. TikTok users have recently been trying volumizing hair clips. While some swear by the simple hack, others haven’t found serious success.
Volumizing hair clips are technically easy to use, but getting in the groove of it can take a few tries. Clamp the hair clips as close as possible to the root of your hair in sections and let them sit for 15 minutes or longer. When you open the clip, pull it toward the ends of your hair for the easiest removal. If all goes according to plan, the hair clips will create a slight bend at the root promoting volume.
Ashley West, known as Southernwest Sunshine on TikTok, has been leading the charge for volumizing clips on the app. She shared some pro tips for getting the best results. “Whatever pattern you place them in, make sure the clip is as close as possible to the scalp,” says West. Additionally, “If the velcro is getting stuck, soften the bristles by rubbing the clips together against themselves.”
Another pro tip is applying a volumizing product before placing the clips.
