Facial surgeries are increasingly popular, with recent numbers indicating a significant rise. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), facelifts have surged by 60 percent since 2017. However, it’s important to note that modern facelift techniques have evolved substantially. Today’s facelifts are far from the stereotypical procedures of the past, which often resulted in obvious signs of plastic surgery or an overly tightened appearance likened to a “wind tunnel” effect. Delray Beach, FL plastic surgeon Drew Schnitt, MD emphasizes that his facelift procedures incorporate advanced protocols aimed at achieving natural-looking results without the telltale signs of traditional facelifts.

The Right Surgeon

Dr. Schnitt says the journey to a good facelift result starts with choosing the right aesthetic physician. The right surgeon will have expertise in a wide range of treatments and be able to recommend the most suitable options for each individual’s needs, whether that involves noninvasive and surgical approaches. “Finding the appropriate surgeon for the job means selecting a professional who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This ensures that the surgeon has undergone rigorous training and possesses the necessary skills to perform various procedures safely and effectively. You’ll want someone who is proficient in a variety of procedures, ranging from skin-care treatments such as lasers and chemical peels to more advanced techniques like injectables, fillers, fat grafting and surgery.”

Foundational Support

Central to Dr. Schnitt’s approach is the “Lipo Renuvion Suture Lift,” a technique that blends liposuction with helium plasma technology to streamline and tighten the lower face. To give additional support to the “lift” part of the procedure, he also incorporates internal sutures that work as a netting. “The Suture Lift offers remarkable tightening and contouring effects,” he explains. During the procedure, he accesses the internal structures, including the muscles over the neck and gently lifts and anchors them to the mastoid fascia behind the ears. “As the tissues tighten and heal over time, the sutures eventually dissolve, leaving behind a rejuvenated neckline and jawline with a firmer, more youthful look.”

Add-On Enhancements

Facial rejuvenation transcends a facelift alone, as Dr. Schnitt illuminates the importance of add-on procedures in achieving a harmonious result. “Chin augmentations, cheek enhancements and brow lifts are integral components of a comprehensive approach,” he emphasizes. “This aspect is often overlooked in discussions about facelifts. Additional treatments include chin augmentations using implants or one’s tissue, as well as cheek augmentations involving implants or bone restructuring. Moreover, I offer procedures to address the entire face, such as brow lifts, brow shaping and corner elevation, sometimes referred to as ‘cat eyes.’” These adjunctive treatments enhance facial symmetry and balance.

Skin Care Integration

Recognizing the symbiotic relationship between skin health and surgical outcomes, Dr. Schnitt says an appropriate skin-care regimen is crucial to a beautiful result. “Pre- and post-operative skin-care routines, including laser treatments and chemical peels, optimize surgical outcomes and promote skin rejuvenation,” he explains. By addressing skin quality alongside structural enhancements, patients achieve holistic facial rejuvenation.

A Tailored Approach

“Facelifts are not one-size-fits-all,” asserts Dr. Schnitt, emphasizing the importance of tailoring treatment plans to individual patients. “Certain techniques are effective for some but not suitable for others,” he explains. While some individuals may benefit from a mid facelift, others may require a full facelift for optimal results. “It’s crucial not to overlook the significance of a brow lift in these discussions,” Dr. Schnitt adds, noting that many patients seeking or in need of blepharoplasty may require a brow lift for comprehensive rejuvenation. In essence, his insights highlight the necessity of personalized approaches to meet each patient’s unique needs and desired outcomes.
