Anyone who has ever had a blowout has been there: Your hair can look coiffed, bouncy and pretty much perfect—until you wake up the next day to a scary scene of frizz, dents and full-on disaster. Celebrity hairstylist and thinning hair expert Angelo David Pisacreta of Angelo David Salon says it doesn’t have to be that way, and offers these tips for super second-day (and third-, and maybe, fourth-day) hair:
This is probably the easiest thing you can do: Don’t touch your hair! As Pisacreta explains, your fingers are oily; touch your hair and it gets oily too.
If you go to bed with good hair and consistently wake up with a bird’s nest–style, you might want to ditch your cotton pillowcases. “Sleep on a silk pillowcase to avoid frizz and tangles,” Pisacreta says.

Master the Loose Pony
When your head does hit the pillow, Pisacreta says this is the style he recommends sleeping in. “Twist your hair into a loose ponytail and tie it up on the top of your head.”
Pro tip: Don’t overuse products, no matter how much they promise to keep your style stellar. Pisacreta’s pick: Specifically formulated shampoos and conditioners that maximize bounce and body and boost volume without lifting the cuticle or causing dryness. “Dry shampoo is also a great product to make your blowdry last longer, along with a great hair brush.”
Don’t Skip Brushing
Blowout addicts never quite know if this step is OK, but Pisacreta says to go for it. “Brush your hair every night with a boar bristle brush that will penetrate to the roots, evenly distribute natural oils and gently smooth the cuticle, leaving hair with a healthy sheen.”
Skillfully Take a Shower
Take quick showers and use a great shower cap, Pisacreta says, and adds you can go as long as six to seven days of not washing, depending on your hair texture. “If you have fine hair, you may want to wash it more often, maybe every other day so it doesn’t look flat or oily. If you have curly or coarse hair, I think a three-to-five day window is good. And lastly, if you have long think hair or if you are wearing extensions, maybe six or seven days.”
