Trying to lose weight can be frustrating, especially when it feels like you’re doing everything right and still aren’t seeing results. Alice Fields understands this pain.

Starting at 200 pounds, the 24-year-old Australian was forcing herself to get up and run three miles every morning. “It was torture. I wasn’t something I enjoyed at all. But I thought it was what I had to do to lose weight,” Fields told People. She was also cutting back on the amount of food she ate, and yet she still wasn’t seeing results she wanted. She explains that she would lose a small bit of weight, but once she started eating normally again, she’d put the weight back on.

So instead of running and hating it, she decided to try an IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) diet and swap her cardio for a powerlifting workout. This adjustment did wonders. She said she started to notice a difference after just a month. Not just in her strength—but also the way her clothes fit.

Although she dropped her weight to 163 pounds, she also stopped judging her success solely by what the scale said. “I was losing weight in some places and gaining muscle in others,” she told the online magazine. Not only were these new muscles giving her a toned look, but she also realized that with more muscle, her body was burning more fat.

So what’s her advice to other woman looking for similar results? “Just keep at it and try different things,” Fields told Daily Mail Australia. “Find something you love and get your friends involved and create that support base. Make it fun and make it consistent.”
