If you’ve ever bought hair extensions online, raise your hand if you’ve received your gorgeous faux hair in the mail, only to find out it doesn’t match your hair color at all? Unfortunately this happens too often. And though salon extensions are an easy way to avoid that blunder, they come with a hefty price tag (not to mention time commitments), and not all of us are ready to take that leap. To make the process of DIY extensions even easier, Luxy Hair turned to the tech world.

Today, the hair extension brand announced an Artificial Intelligence Color Match Tool that’s been more than a year in the making and helps to enhance the shopping experience by minimizing the risk of ordering the wrong shade to blend with your natural strands. “We are excited to announce the launch of a proprietary color-matching AI tool that addresses the number-one Luxy customer challenge: determining which hair color to purchase,” says Amy Sveda, president of Luxy Hair. “We felt it was table stakes in this age of the omniverse to offer a hyper-personalized brand experience. We are thrilled to be the first in the hair extension space to pioneer this technology.” 

Accessible via mobile or desktop, the tool cuts out the back-and-forth color-matching service some other hair extension companies offer, where you send in a picture of yourself and a representative gets back to you soon enough with their recommendation. “With our tool, the customer has the option to take an instantaneous photo or upload one from her/his/their existing arsenal,” says Sveda. “A match is delivered instantly, taking the guesswork out of the customer journey. As a digitally native beauty brand, technology has always been a priority for Luxy as a way to create more experiential interactions with our customers. The pandemic wasn’t the initial catalyst for us, but it certainly crystalized the necessity for AI advancements given the increased traffic to the DIY hair e-commerce space.”
