Like the rest of the face, the jawline can become loose and start to head south. But the right mix of injectables and fillers can give a refreshed look.

“When injecting the jawline with either Radiesse or hyaluronic acid, the filler must be injected along the natural angles and made symmetric to achieve a true aesthetic enhancement. The key is for your doctor to know how much volume has been lost and to reinstate it appropriately,” Scottsdale, AZ, facial plastic surgeon Kelly V. Bomer, MD, says. By adding volume, the jawline can look more defined. But, there can’t be too much loose skin or the treatment won’t do much.

In some patients, too much muscle activity can cause the lips to turn downward, making the lower part of the face look tired. “The complex of the muscles in the chin and the corners of the mouth can pull the corners of the mouth down. But by relaxing the chin and mouth corners with Botox, Dysport or Xeomin, the muscle movements that curve the mouth downward are minimized, the sides of the mouth are lifted and the junction between the chin and the mouth is given an effect of what looks like increased volume,” says Dr. Bomer. These neurotoxins are injected (off-label) into the corners of the mouth.
