NewBeauty: Hi, Richard, how are you? She just walked the red carpet and the hair looks beautiful.
Richard Marin: Good, thank you so much.

NB: So, did we win already?
RM: I mean, come on—the hair, the dress. She looks amazing.

NB: Okay, so how long have you been working with Renée?
RM: For six years now. We met during Bridget Jones’ Baby.

NB: Wow…and now now here you are, the hardest working man in awards show hair.
RM: It’s been incredible. This Judy movie has been quite a journey, and it’s pretty special to me because I remember when she first talked about how she was considering doing this movie. So, going from that point to today is pretty incredible.

NB: I mean she must be the most winningest client I’m sure you’ve ever had.
RM: I’ve never been with somebody who won every single category that she’s been nominated in. It’s been a straight flush, it’s truly amazing.

NB: What went into Renée’s look tonight and would you say that this is like her signature style?
RM: Renée likes her hair to be put together. She doesn’t like loose hair. She doesn’t like to think about her hair once she leaves for the red carpet. She always likes a ponytail, a chignon or an updo. We were just in Paris last week and I was fortunate enough to be at the fitting for her dress with Armani and we completely changed our mind about what we were going to do after she put the dress on. It just had to be very simple and pulled back.

NB: What products did you use? Was there anything special that you did tonight?

RM: Yeah, I really wanted to bring a lot of shine into her hair because the style is simple. I really needed it to be shiny so that it complemented the dress. The dress is a little sparkly, so I wanted the hair not to be so pulled back and to add a little brilliance to it.

NB: And what do you use?
RM: I used  a spray that I swear by called Biolage All in One. Renée has fine hair, so conditioning it too much would work against it. This product is great because it’s a coconut fusion spray that you spray onto wet hair, and you leave it in for two minutes. Then I rinse it out in cold water. The cold water really helps seal the cuticle even further, and sealed cuticles is what creates a shine reflection. Most people with dull or matte hair have damaged hair and the cuticles are open. So, this product and shot of cold water makes the hair shiny but not limp. So, I left that in for two minutes and then rinsed it out. I added Biolage Glowtion Blow Dry Lotion and put Biolage Thermal Active heat protectant spray in her hair and just blowed it out with the T3 Cura Luxe Dryer to achieve maximum volume.

NB: Well, she looks amazing and I know that you’re probably already so proud of her.
RM: Yes, amazingly proud.
