If we’re going to wear a mask—and yes, we ARE going to—it might as well look nice right? Just as we would pull together our outfit with a swipe of bold lipstick, we can slip on a face covering that complements our overall look and makes us feel more confident about these less-than-ideal circumstances.

Although face masks have become incredibly controversial in the U.S., the CDC reports that COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks or raises their voice while shouting, chanting or singing. According to the organization, “these droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Recent studies show that a significant portion of individuals with COVID-19 lack symptoms (are ‘asymptomatic’), and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (are ‘pre-symptomatic’) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms.”

To reduce the spread of this nasty infection, we’re all being urged to wear cloth face coverings in public settings until we’re advised it’s OK not to. Here are 22 of our favorite non-medical-grade face masks right now—the ultimate fusion of fashion and function.

Lele Sadoughi Pastel Face Masks ($40 for three)

Leave it to the headband queen to create the prettiest face masks—many of which are designed to match Lele’s headbands as well (there are so many options to choose from!). Adorned with pearls, hearts, stars and more, the masks are reusable and made of two layers of soft cotton and have adjustable ear straps and a pocket if you want to add your own filter.

We love that the brand has also donated thousands of headbands with button hooks to healthcare providers to give them a more comfortable way to wear their medical masks.

KITSCH Cotton Face Masks ($12 for three)

Comfy, breathable and neutral enough to match everything in your closet, these soft cotton masks are a total steal. I’m personally obsessed with the black tie-dye—the brand has two other sets of patterns, too (Leopard and Blush)—but you can’t go wrong with any of them. They’re also washable!

Tanya Taylor Protective Face Masks ($35 for three)

How fun are these for summertime? It’s no wonder they keep selling out! Each mixed-print pack—there are three combos—comes with three upcycled fabric masks that feature a double-lining of fabric for added protection, elastic earloops and a nose clip to keep it secure.

4 / 9

Slip Double-Sided Silk Face Covering ($40 each)

These reusable, 100-percent mulberry silk Leopard and Black face coverings—there’s also a beautiful light pink—have adjustable nose wires and elastic earloops, and feel incredibly light and soft on your skin (like everything else we love from the brand).

Plus, Slip is donating 5 percent of the profits from each face covering sold in the U.S. to BABY2BABY between June 18 and September 18, 2020.

Cosabella Never Say Never Pleated Face Mask ($18) and Never Say Never V Face Mask ($18)

Inspired by the brand’s beloved Italian-made lingerie, these luxe masks come in 23 colors and are made with the same sustainable fabric used throughout the collection. For every mask sold, Cosabella is donating 20 percent of the net profits to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

6 / 9

Kylie Lips Fabric Face Mask ($14)

In true Kylie Jenner fashion, this reusable, washable face mask features a fun lipstick print on the brand’s signature pink color. It also has a slide slit for replaceable filters if you want to add an extra layer of protection.

7 / 9

NIGHT 100% Silk Face Mask + (7) Disposable Filters ($55 each)

Most masks have an opening on the back so you can add your own filter if you want, but these go a step further by actually providing the filters for you. Three layers of fabric, including 100-percent mulberry silk and the disposable filter, make sure you’re protected against dangerous particles in the air without irritating your skin.

The bonus: For every purchase, NIGHT will donate five surgical masks to a local hospital in New York City to support those on the front lines, with the goal of donating 10,000 masks.

8 / 9

LMNtal Copper Line Mask ($35)

These patented high-tech masks are made of six protective layers—three 99.9-percent effective antimicrobial copper layers and three HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters. They’re also UV-protective and anti-static, so your hair won’t stick! Tracee Ellis Ross wore this same one in her #WearADamnMask challenge photo on Instagram.

9 / 9

Chico’s 3-Pack of Nonmedical Face Coverings ($15)

Machine-washable for easy care, these reusable masks come in sets of three to provide a variety of timeless styles to complement every piece in your wardrobe. There’s also a pocket for removable filters (purchased separately) to make your mask even more effective.
