During a single treatment, approximately 5,000 tiny bits of skin are removed, which is about 5 to 7 percent of the total surface area. The holes are so small that they close within a few hours, much like if you were to draw blood with a needle. The result is skin tightening and thickening, and essentially the removal or reduction of wrinkles. —Houston plastic surgeon Henry Mentz, MD
