With her new role on HBO’s Big Little Liars, Zoë Kravitz sports her customary long dreadlocks with some shaved side action. But the 28-year-old has gone platinum and anyone who has ever take the plunge from dark hair to a bleach blond color knows that serious hydration and care is in order—dreadlocks or not.
Going superlight is definitely on many A-listers beauty to-do list at the moment. Allison Williams changed up her look and opted for platinum and so has Katy Perry.

According to Vogue, Kravitz keeps her blond locks in tip-top shape with a simple solution, coconut oil. “My hair breaks really easily, and I think I leave a trail of blond hair everywhere I go right now,” she says.
Besides using the natural do-it-all as well as Olaplex and Bumble & Bumble leave-in conditioners to protect her hair, Kravitz says that wearing a red lip with blond hair, “Has a bombshell-y thing to it. A dark, more dramatic brow is something I’m more into now; it used to be a little overpowering with the dark hair. And with the platinum, it’s a little bit less-is-more because it’s such an intense look. You only need one dramatic thing, whether it is the red lip or the eye, because the hair is dramatic already, you know?”
When she first went platinum, Kravitz says that it felt really thick and intense. Nikki Nelms, who has done her hair for years, helped her, “Cut it down and make it a little bit airier and elf-like.”
Hair aside, Kravitz told the magazine that she and her mother, actress Lisa Bonet, tries to do an annual cleanse together. “We do the Dr. Schulze one; it’s a 30 day cleanse and it’s really intense but you feel like a million bucks after. You really clean out everything in your body and start again. Health is literally all we have, and we take it for granted. I really think beauty starts from within. If you’re not sleeping and you’re not drinking water and you’re not eating right and you’re not exercising—if you’re not taking care of yourself, no amount of makeup or no fabulous outfit is going to make you look good.”
