It’s a fact, millions of Americans spend hours sitting at their desks hunched over their computers. And while there are rewards associated with slaving away at your desk, there are also drawbacks—like bad posture. With so much on our minds, it’s no surprise we’re forgetting to sit up straight. One new gadget is on the scene to remind us to keep our head up and shoulders back.
The LUMOback ($149) is a posture-monitoring device you wear around your lower back that connects to an app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The sensors in the device measure your pelvic tilt to help guide your body into the correct posture. The second you slouch, lean to far forward or backward or shift your weight too far to one side, the device (that’s strapped to you like a belt) will gently vibrate to remind you to correct your posture. It’s like your own personal posture trainer.
On your phone or tablet, the app tracks your progress to help you better understand your habits and measure your progress over time. It also tracks your steps, how much you sit and stand throughout the day and even your sleeping positions too!
