If you live in California, your favorite beauty products may be in jeopardy…but for good reason. New ingredients have been added to The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as Proposition 65, and it may affect your ability to purchase certain beauty products.
As dictated by the proposition, the governor of California annually publishes a new list of ingredients and chemicals that the state says could potentially cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. In compliance with Proposition 65, many beauty brands are willfully removing their products from shelves in California, even though they’re confident about the safety of our products. The newest additions to the list that affect beauty products include cocamide (a sudsing agent), micronized titanium dioxide and more.
As of this summer, you’ll see a change in many beauty products sold in California and, in many cases, you may not be able to purchase them anymore. Many brands and more are currently reformulating the removed products for the California market to assure continued safety and customer satisfaction. In fact, some brands have actually already replaced them.
