Day-to-night may be a very commonly thrown-around term in the world of makeup, but New York makeup artist Vanessa Ungaro of LAUREN+VANESSA says there’s a trend that’s currently hitting a whole bunch of cosmetics-related products you should NOT let see the light of day. But before you back away from the eye makeup, this no-no doesn’t have to do with color.
“Glycolic acid and salicylic acid [AHA/BHA] may be more common in the skin care arena, but I’m seeing these ingredients popping up more and more in makeup, specifically foundations,” Ungaro says. “They make your skin more sensitive to the sun, which means it is more susceptible to UV damage.”

Her advice: Stick to using any type of skin care product that has an acid during your nighttime routine and always apply a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
