Much of the yoga-specific clothing I’ve found in stores seems to be geared toward either women with zero body fat or those who don’t mind being engulfed by a XXL tent-like t-shirt with some pithy yoga-ish words of encouragement. Typically, these clothes either don’t offer enough support for a woman with some curves-or are barely worthy to wear to bed.
So I was ecstatic to see the new line by Via Privé that offers real-world yoga gear. Two-toned colored tanks reach high enough up the chest that a downward dog pose won’t run you the risk of a Nancy Grace-like Dancing With the Stars slip. I’m especially intrigued by the Ivy Tank and its wide, almost halter-like straps. The sports bras, like the hot pink Jasmine, pictured, promise to provide enough support for a jog. And bonus: Some of the pants are offered in tall sizes and reach up high enough on the waist so that you don’t feel like a certain plumber who once visited you. The Mamma line offers all of the styles for pregnant women.
Via Privé says it’s Quadracore fabric, a blend of nylon and Lycra, stretches four ways, giving the gear a custom-made feel that wicks away moisture, yet allows you to move. Good news for all us “warriors.”
