Philosophy

Drawing on a holistic approach to smile care, Dr. Irene Grafman aims to create beautiful, healthy smiles that also make patients look younger. “The transformation begins with a great night’s sleep,” says Dr. Grafman. “When you are well-rested, not only do you slow down the aging process, but you can also positively affect your weight, energy, health and stress levels. The other important step in the transformation is putting your smile into its natural and most comfortable position. I take all factors into account to create healthy, beautiful smiles.” Her healthdriven approach is what draws clients to her practice. “A lot of my patients are not comfortable drilling down healthy teeth,” she adds. “To restore their smile without removing any tooth structure, I painlessly reshape and design a dream smile with bonding. This procedure has changed many of my patients’ lives.”

About My Practice

How do you help patients enjoy their dental experience?

We truly value our patients and enjoy building relationships with them. We want them to feel confident in us and enjoy coming to our office. Incorporating all the newest technologies allows our patients to be comfortable from the moment they arrive to the time they walk out with their healthy smile.

What obstacles get in the way of optimal oral health?

Teeth are negatively affected by three diseases: cavities, gum disease and occlusal (bite) disease. Most of us know the symptoms of the first and second, but occlusal disease is not so obvious. Wear, sensitivity, cracks, loose teeth, broken restorations, sore muscles, painful and clicking joints and headaches may be the effects of occlusal disease. Ignoring these problems could impact the longevity of your teeth.

What is the philosophy you practice by?

I believe a healthy smile equals a beautiful smile. However, what people don't realize is that requesting cosmetic dentistry without regard to the overall bite and function of the smile is asking for failure. My patients appreciate how great dentistry can impact their appearance, health and self-esteem.

FAQs

  1. Is it safe to use over-the-counter tooth whitening products?
    What our experts say:

Before using any whitening products with any concentration, you have to go to the dentist to make sure you have no cavities. If there is decay and the bleach seeps inside the tooth, it can cause serious nerve damage that won’t go away, you may even need a root canal.

  2. Do whitening toothpastes work?
    What our experts say:

They can prevent stain from coming back on the teeth on a daily basis, but they won’t make any difference as far as whitening.

  3. Do professional whitening toothpastes work?
    What our experts say:

It depends on the concentration of the bleach. They can only sell a certain amount over-the counter, so they would have to be used for an extended period of time.

  4. What is the best way to whiten teeth?
    What our experts say:

I use a technique called Kor Whitening that was developed by a doctor. I like it better than ZOOM whitening because it is the only product to significantly whiten genetically discolored teeth. ZOOM and other treatments only take you back to your original tooth color. It’s a combination of an in-office and an at-home treatment, so you get trays to keep at home and maintain. The difference between these trays and others are that these trays are made so precisely, like those made for Invisalign, so they don’t impinge the gum. They also suction to the tooth, keeping the bleach where it is supposed to be. The bleach stays on the tooth and doesn’t leak out. Also, he changed the consistency of the bleach to make it more stable. You start off with two weeks at home using the trays overnight. That is followed by an in-office laser treatment, and then another one to two weeks at home. I have gotten to paper white with this system, if that is what they want to do.

  5. Once my teeth are whitened, how do I maintain them?
    What our experts say:

You can maintain it at home a couple by using the trays a couple of days a month at home.

Testimonials

Rus D.
"I have been a patient of Dr. Grafman for 8 years and she and her staff are the best in New York. The environment is relaxing and the staff is amazing. She does beautiful cosmetic work and uses only all white fillings. I had Invisalign done by her and the process and result was really great. If you are looking for a great dentist in Manhattan where you will get great care I highly recommend Dr. Grafman. I have had a lot of bad dental experiences and not so great work in the past, so its great to find someone where I know I am getting great dentistry and being well taken care of. Pros: Invisalign was a pleasant experience "
