Bottled or tap? Sparkling or still? However you like your water, drink more of it. Recent research suggest that increased water consumption is tied to greater weight loss.

Brenda Davy, associate professor of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise at Virginia Tech, found that people who drink two glasses of water before every meal lose significantly more weight than those who don’t.

In further research from Davy and her team, it was discovered that people who drink water before meals eat an average of 75 fewer calories during the meal. Simply put, water aids in losing weight because drinking water helps diminish your feelings of hunger, making curbing calories at meals much easier.

The Institute of Medicine recommends that women consume 91 ounces (2.7 liters) of water every day. That said, we suggest drinking water as your main beverage and limiting liquid calories as much as you can.
