What’s Your Best Side? Now We Know Thanks To Science featured image

Take note when you smile for the camera, there’s a good chance that you’re going to like the photo more if you pose on your left side. Or at least, everyone else will. That’s because scientists have recently discovered that the left side of your face is actually more expressive than the right, making it more attractive to the rest of the world.

According to Wake Forest University researchers in the journal Experimental Brain Research, the participants in their study looked at black-and-white photos of people’s profiles, which were both original photos and those that showed the mirror image of the original. Most thought the photo subject’s left side was more attractive for both men and women. Researchers even gauged each participant’s reaction by measuring their pupil size. Why? Our pupils dilate when we’re looking at someone we find attractive.

Also noteworthy: It’s not the eyes that catch everyone’s attention in photos, it turns out that a person’s cheeks show greater intensity of emotion, which the study participants also found more appealing.

Will this new research make you rethink your “best side?” Let us know which side of a person’s face you are more drawn to in the comments below.
