What To Expect From Keratin Treatments

What To Expect From Keratin Treatments featured image

If you’re considering a keratin treatment in hopes of waking up every day with effortlessly pin-straight hair, you may be disappointed by the actual results.

Keratin basically fills in places where hair is porous; so the less porosity, the straighter your hair will be. However, keratin treatments are more gentle than a treatment like Japanese straightening, so while it can give you smoother, straighter strands, you may still need to blow-dry and/or flat-iron your hair to get the look you’re trying to achieve.

Furthermore, your results depend on both your stylist’s abilities and your own upkeep habits.

Since this is a time-consuming, labor-intensive process, your results will only be as good as the skill of the stylist performing the treatment. Some people don’t get optimal results because their stylist doesn’t run the iron through the hair enough times or they use sections of hair that are too large.

After the treatment, it’s crucial not to wash or wet your hair or pull it back for as long as your stylist recommends. This depends on the treatment brand, but it’s usually the first three or four days. When you do eventually wash your hair, from that point on, it needs to be with a sodium-sulfate-free shampoo. Anything else will strip the treatment out of your hair.

Ultimately, keratin treatments are a great way to dramatically reduce frizz in any hair type for several months.
