Has the American obsession with being a size 0 made it across the pond? UK weight-loss surgery company Surgicare asked over 2000 women and men of all ages what they believe is the ideal dress size, and the most popular answer may surprise you: almost half of the participants chose a British size 12-that’s the American equivalent of a size 8.
Of those who picked the American equivalents of sizes 0 through 6, most were between the ages of 16 and 24. Researchers believe this is because they are more easily influenced by the media.
“We are surprised by the results because we thought there would be obvious differences in what men and women considered the ideal dress size,” Surgicare’s cosmetic surgery chief executive said. “However, it’s reassuring to find out the size 0 debate isn’t changing public opinion and nearly half of the population prefer a healthy size 12 .”
