We don’t mean to bore you with the old, “it’s the entertainment industry’s fault” for making women think they have to squeeze themselves into unrealistic beauty ideals. But after hearing about Octavia Spencer’s post-win interview at this past Sunday’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, we thought we’d get your opinion on the matter.
In a backstage interview at the show, Spencer shared her thoughts about women versus “society.”
“I feel for the overly thin women as much as I do for the overweight women,” she says. “It … has to change.” She blame’s the entertainment industry for many women’s poor body image, claiming they tell women they’re “no longer valuable at a certain age, or because of [their] weight.”
We agree with Spencer when she says this needs to change, but we’re even more excited about her proposed solution: Eat more. “If more women ate, they would be a lot happier,” she says. Of course, try to keep your food choice healthy.
Since the average American adult woman wears a size 14 in dresses, we want to know what you think. What is the ideal weight and size for a woman? Is it Hollywood’s stick thin image, a size 14, or somewhere in the middle? Tell us what you think in the *comments below.
