Retail partnerships in the beauty space are ever-growing and all-important—a smart business move for all parties involved. There’s Sephora at Kohl’s (prior to Kohl’s it was JC Penney), Ulta Beauty at Target, Bluemercury in Macy’s, and today, it was announced that Walmart and Space NK are teaming up. An unexpected partnership in that Walmart is one of the major players in mass beauty and British retailer Space NK is a household name on the luxury side, but that’s where things get interesting: With this new collaboration, dubbed BEAUTYSPACENK, Walmart plans to expand into prestige beauty.
Space NK has curated a collection of more than 600 products from 15 prestige brands, spanning the skin-care, hair-care, makeup, and bath and body categories, all while keeping the Walmart customer in mind (this includes consideration for price points too). BEAUTYSPACENK will launch online beginning March 15, and then eventually branch out to 250 Walmart stores across the country this summer.
Some established luxury brands you can expect to see include Lancer, By Terry, Philip B, Goldfaden MD, and Slip (those gorgeous silk pillowcases we love). There will also be brands exclusive to Walmart and BEAUTYSPACENK, such as a new mineral sunscreen brand called Summer Camp, created by the founders of Soleil Toujours, a super chic SPF brand beloved by celebs.
“We are delighted to partner with Walmart to bring prestige beauty to customers across the United States, delivered through our unique model that makes it easy to connect brands with shoppers,” said Andy Lightfoot, CEO of Space NK. “We have created a proposition for Walmart that we believe will be market-leading, utilizing our years of expertise in this area. We have curated the very best of beauty for their customers, allowing them to shop prestige beauty when, where and how they choose.”
