For Dutch supermodel Romee Strijd, being named a Victoria’s Secret Angel was one of the best things that ever happened to her. And on top of that, she’s also been named the face of the brand’s newest scent, Bombshell Seduction, which she says makes her feel incredibly honored, as well as “really sexy.” I had a chance to sit down with the 5′ 11″ bombshell herself to pick her brain about all things beauty and fragrance, and find out just how she gets that coveted Victoria’s Secret glow.

NewBeauty: How does it feel to be the face of Bombshell Seduction, and how does it differ from the other Bombshell scents?
Romee Strijd: It means a lot for me to be the face of this fragrance because it’s a big part of the brand, and it’s so floral—it has tuberose and jasmine in it—which kind of reminds of me of my home in Holland because we know our flowers there. What makes it different is that it’s more floral and has a touch of musk that makes a little more sexy. Whenever I spray it on before I go out, it smells like a fresh, airy fragrance at first, but then it gives you that sexy feeling, like “I’m ready for this.” It makes me feel really good and sexy, and it’s the perfect finishing touch.

NB: How do you maintain that Victoria’s Secret glow everyone wants?
RS: I’m all about keeping it super simple, and I think what really helps your skin is everything you put in your body. I try to live a healthy lifestyle, sleep a lot and drink a lot of water—I also really enjoy working out. Moisturizer is the one product I never go without. I love Embryolisse and I always have it with me. I feel like it hydrates and moisturizes my skin really well, and whenever I get off a plane, I put a little layer on. I think you have to keep it simple, and just make sure your skin is always hydrated.

NB: Do you get regular facials or do any in-office treatments?
RS: I’m not really into facials or other treatments—I only do a facial before the VS fashion show—but I think it’s really good to sweat it out every once in a while, so I do the infrared sauna. The sauna heats my whole body and makes me sweat a lot, which releases toxins; it’s also really relaxing. I go by myself and bring a book, and it’s one hour of pure relaxation. It’s really good.
NB: How did you get started in modeling?
RS: When I was 14, I was asked to be a model, and I said no at first because had I never thought about it. Later on I got more interested in it and started working in Paris because I couldn’t move to the U.S. until I was 18. I think the big moment for me that made me really start enjoying modeling was when I booked the VS show. That was my longtime goal and dream. When I got my VS contract, I decided to move to New York, and it’s been an incredible journey so far.
NB: You wear so many pretty nude lipsticks. Which one is your favorite?
RS: I love the VS Velvet Matte Lip Stain in Adored. I think it’s super pretty and I like the velvety feel. The stain stays on for a long time—it really doesn’t move—so it’s the perfect go-to if you have a long day or a night out.

NB: You’re always traveling for work, so what is your favorite travel beauty tip?
RS: Always keep your skin hydrated, especially when you’re flying. I bring a face mist with me—I like the one from Caudalie—and when it’s a really long flight, I sometimes bring a sheet mask. People on the plane look at me like what is she doing, but it’s good to keep my skin hydrated because it’s so dry up there.
NB: What’s your number-one career goal?
RS: I hope I can be a spokesperson for VS for as long as possible, like Adriana [Lima]. It’s amazing how she had babies and everything and has been a spokesperson for so long. But for now, I’m super grateful for everything I have and we’ll see where the world takes me.
