What’s an organic gal to do when the business she works in works with chemicals that don’t work for her lifestyle? For Amanda Walker, once immersed in the mainstream beauty biz, it meant doing things her own way: creating a fragrance company that shunned the questionable components that make up the majority of today’s perfumes.
A Perfume Organic was born not only of a love of fragrance, but a desire to return to traditional-and healthier-perfume production. The result is a unique collection of hand-poured, botanical scents that celebrate sustainability and purity.
Certified organic and vegan like its sister scents, the appropriately named Green is considered A Perfume Organic’s flagship fragrance, and it’s an excellent introduction to this clever and conscious brand. Instead of alcohol, Green’s notes of rose, black truffle, ylang ylang and two kinds of chamomile are carried by natural oils. And although it’s bottled-and beautifully so-in New York City, this herb-y blend was inspired by an experience in Oregon.
If you can bear to part with the box, which features a gorgeous logo that’s been printed with vegetable ink, try planting it in a pot or garden. It’s embedded with seeds!
We can’t help but appreciate how Amanda Walker pursued perfuming with a personal set of ecological ethics that a growing number of people are adopting. Even if your passions lie elsewhere, it’s impossible to ignore the elegant honesty of A Perfume Organic’s scents and the pure pleasure that comes with wearing them.
