Ulta is already under fire for allegations that it has been reselling used makeup (there’s even a lawsuit filed against it), but the latest cringe-worthy news may even be costing you your hard-earned cash.

Reditt user likewhaa took to the internet to warn fellow Ulta shoppers that you may not be getting all of your money back when making a return or exchange. “I recently returned an online order in store and for some reason the sales tax wasn’t included with my refund,” the post reads. “After arguing with the employee that yes, I did pay it the first time and no, it wasn’t a coupon or discount that was throwing off the price, he got a manager. The manager says that when this happens, they can’t do anything in store and that I had to call customer service. So they know that this happens but don’t tell anyone about it?”

Reddit users were quick to chime in regarding personal experiences they’ve had with the same situation. “This happened to me twice at Ulta,” one user commented, adding that after complaining to customer service both times, a gift card to cover the cost of the tax was arranged.

Multiple comments from users who dug old Ulta receipts out of their bags have also surfaced on the thread, many of them upset that it happened to them as well without knowing it. “I just looked at my receipt from a return I made a few days ago and they didn’t refund me the correct amount. I am SO pissed,” user cupcake917 writes. “Thanks for posting this. Now I have to call my credit card to dispute the difference, I’m not driving to the store for a few dollars but I def will get my money back.”

Even worse, Ulta doesn’t appear to be the only beauty retailer doing this. “Sephora did this to me once,” user xPaperdoll notes, adding that after purchasing an item in store, the full amount was not credited back. “I checked the return receipt and saw the tax wasn’t refunded.”

Though it may sound like a fluke—a past Ulta employee noted that it happened a few times when working the cashier—we can’t help but agree with user baciodolce: “Given their track record, I’m surprised they haven’t fixed it.”

For now, double check your receipts. If you find that the full amount has not been credited back to you after a return or exchange, calling Ulta’s customer service line, 1-866-983-8582, has proven to work relatively well. If there’s no luck there, call your credit card company to dispute it.
