Recent research suggests that full lips may have as much to do with a woman’s perceived age as the appearance of wrinkles. “The volume in your lips starts to decline as early as in the mid-30s,” says Palm Beach Gardens, FL, facial plastic surgeon Mark Murphy, MD. But how can you create a natural-looking, full lip without overdoing it? “People need to be realistic about the outcome—especially if you have small lips. You can’t create more of the pink part,” says Englewood, CO, facial plastic surgeon Michael Menachof, MD, who stresses that taking a look at the normal anatomy of what lips look like is key. “Angelina Jolie’s lips are a perfect example. The lower lip has a groove in the middle, the upper lip and lower lip are not the same size, and they move. That’s what you want: soft, supple lips.”
