Philosophy

Giving patients time and understanding is of the utmost importance to Dr. Scott Newman. “It’s one thing to make someone look good, but you also need to make them happy,” says Dr. Newman, who recognizes that every patient has different tastes and it’s important to understand the individual goals of each one. “You must have open communication with patients so they feel comfortable enough to discuss their most sensitive issues. This requires time, sometimes as much as an hour, for an initial consultation. I strive not only to make my patients look great, but more so, to be sure they are completely satisfied with their results.”

About My Practice:

How long do you spend with patients in consultation?

It’s important for my patients to understand all of the safe options available. I tailor all procedures to the individual, so I see each patient as often as needed to review their options and work together to determine the best surgical approach for them.

What is your chairside style?

Patients are often embarrassed about breast or body issues, so we’ve created an environment that allows them to be relaxed and open. I believe there’s a real art to making people feel comfortable, and my staff and I are proud of our ability to do just that.

How do you ensure patient safety?

Safety is paramount. To this end, my office surgical facility is unlike any other in New York. The 5,000-square-foot private facility is located on a ground floor around the corner from St. John’s Riverside Hospital. I am chief of plastic surgery at the hospital and they maintain our equipment. Outside of a hospital, it’s the safest environment possible.

How are you involved in patient recovery?

Patients don’t want to talk to an answering service; they want to talk to their doctor. We check in with every patient to offer postoperative reassurance and guidance.

About Me:

How do you define success?

The ultimate goal of plastic surgery is to make patients happy. A satisfied patient is the definition of success.

What made you specialize in plastic surgery?

The ability to enhance the quality of someone’s life. This is cognitive surgery, often with several different ways to achieve a satisfying result.

About Me

Breast Lift After Weight Loss

This 26-year-old patient was concerned about her sagging breasts after a 60-pound weight loss. Dr. Newman performed a breast augmentation with a breast lift.

Breast Enlargement

This 32-year-old patient was unhappy with her small, droopy breasts. Dr. Newman performed a breast augmentation to give her a fuller bust.

Giving Patients Time and Understanding

“It’s one thing to make someone look good, but you also need to make them happy,” says Dr. Newman, who recognizes that every patient has different taste and that it’s important to understand each patient’s individual goals. “You must have open communication with patients so they feel comfortable enough to discuss their most sensitive issues. This requires time, sometimes as much as an hour, for an initial consultation. I strive not only to make my patients look great, but more so, to be sure they are completely satisfied with their results. The best way to assure this is to give them enough time to truly learn what they’re trying to achieve.”

The Mathematics of Breast Augmentation

A strong mathematical and computer background led Dr. Newman to develop the first three-dimensional surface imaging system for plastic surgery. Dr. Newman relies on 3-D computer imaging to give patients a clear understanding of how breast surgery may change their appearance. “Utilizing this technology not only helps patients to understand procedures better, but it also gives me information to better achieve these results.”
