Surveys have revealed that nearly half of American women are unhappy with their breasts. Thanks to age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss (and gain), our breasts can change quite a bit over the years. If you’re among the women who think their “girls” need some help. Here are some tried-and-true ways to get them in shape, so you can feel better and look great, and even dare to wear a neck-plunging gown like actress Tia Carrere.
Pick the right bra: If you want to go for a push-up bra to give you some sexy cleavage, get the right size. Both small- and large-breasted women can benefit from a push-up, so go to a lingerie store and get measured for your current size. Once you have it on, you should have one inch of center definition between your breasts.
Get lifted: Without a bra on, look at your body’s profile in the mirror. If your nipple has dropped lower than the crease under your breast, or if your nipple points down, you’ll likely benefit from a breast lift, especially if you feel that you don’t need to go larger.
Add volume: For a permanent solution to breast size, research the types of implants (saline or silicone) as well as the shape (teardrop or round). Breast augmentation actually leaves less of a scar than a breast lift, and you have a choice of placing the implants on top of the muscle, below the muscle or partially under the muscle, all of which provide slightly different results. Be sure to ask your board-certified plastic surgeon lots of questions about these options and ask him or her to show you before and after photos of their work.
Don’t forget to take care of your skin: Eating a diet with lots of antioxidants and nutrients will help ensure healthy, glowing skin, but you may also need skin-tightening treatments to address any sagging or crepey areas. Some laser treatments can be used to smooth the skin on the neck and chest, like fractional carbon dioxide lasers that make tiny wounds that, when healing, create more skin-firming collagen.
