The news and updates about the benefits of fat transfers, where fat is harvested from one area of the body and transferred to another, keeps coming down the pike. According to a review in a recent issue of Cosmetic Dermatology, those benefits include a lower cost than man-made fillers, no risk of allergic reaction and the potential for permanence.
We hear a lot about fat transfers being used successfully as facial fillers. However, there are several other indications for them. The review pointed out that fat transfers were successful with:
• facial volume
• lip augmentation
• butt augmentation
• aging hand treatment
• breast augmentation–though it’s still undergoing further investigation in regards to interference with breast cancer detection. But new reports are promising!
Unfortunately, the best technique to use for fat grafting is still up in the air as it “remains an issue dominated by expert opinion rather than reported evidence,” the researchers say. Especially since another area to tackle is the best way to store donor tissue for future use. But with the current results and enthusiasm for the treatment, we’d bet that’s not far off.
