Cosmetic procedures (whether invasive or not) are a surefire way to enhance your looks. They can turn back the clock, allowing you to look younger than your actual age, or can completely change your features. Does plastic surgery advance you in the game of life, though? Some countries seem to believe as much.
While we’ve all heard the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” it becomes blatantly obvious when considering cultural ideas of beauty. For instance, there are seven times more butt operations in Brazil than the top-25 country average according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
So which country is taking home the gold medal for the most amount of cosmetic procedures per capita? Here is how the world stacked up:
Coming in at #1 is the winner South Korea with many women in the capital city Seoul obtaining eyelid surgery. Greece, despite the economic hardships, comes in for the silver at #2 where breast enhancement is one of the most popular procedures performed. Finally, the bronze medal goes to Italy at #3 where it is mainly neurotoxin injections keeping numbers high.
So where did the US rank? Surprisingly, we came in at #6, even though we as a country have the most procedures performed overall. See this chart by The Economist to see where other countries ranked.
