Your face is a work of art. No really, it is-we’re not just being nice. What we mean when likening your face to something Guggenheim-worthy, is that your features can be sculpted. No scalpel necessary.

With strategic makeup, you can contour and highlight your face to thin and accentuate your features. Our favorite face slimming trick? Creating cheekbones using Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit ($45).

Top makeup artists tell us how you can do it too:

Step 1. Suck in your cheekbones to see where your natural contours are.

Step 2. Apply the lighter shade of makeup in an elongated oval pattern to the top of the cheekbones.

Step 3: Contour the bottom part of the cheeks with the darker color. “Stay slightly below the cheekbones using the top of your ear and corner of your mouth as your guide,” says Valerie Hernandez, Youngblood senior educator of artistry. “Don’t get too close to the mouth and nose, which can create an unhealthy hollow effect,” explains James Boehmer, NARS director of global artistry.

Step 4: Blend the color form the cheekbones up and towards the temples.

Step 5: Highlight the apples of your cheeks, pulling the color toward the top of your cheek where the cheekbones and temples meet.

Step 6: Top the apple of your cheeks with blush.
