Our bodies contain two types of fat: white and brown. Both types are believed to be present in adults, and each serves a different purpose. Simply put, white fat is considered bad, and brown fat is considered good.

White fat is used for long-term energy storage, but it’s not efficient at producing energy. Besides creating an unhealthy appearance, it can cause complications like heart disease and excess insulin secretion.

Brown fat, on the other hand, is loaded with mitochondria, which are like tiny energy engines. Often referred to as “baby fat,” brown fat may benefit your health by protecting against obesity and diabetes. Researchers have found that slimmer adults have more brown fat than those who are overweight.

Naturally, we have more white fat than brown fat, but if brown fat is stimulated, it may be able to control weight and improve metabolism.
