“Thanksgiving is often the start of a season of indulgence: Turkey, stuffing, gravy, pie, cookies, and lots of cocktails! Rather than feel guilty, I just go with the flow. Before events, I fill up on vegetables, cold-pressed juices or soups so that I’m not entering an event starving. I then eat whatever I want, but just half the portion or few forkfuls, unless it’s really delicious. The next day, or when I can control my meals and drinks, I choose healthier. I know January will be a fresh month.”
And when it comes to choosing those almost-omniprescent cocktails, Gushee says go for this: “My new favorite cocktail is tequila, sparkling water, and lime juice. It has less sugar, a slew of reported health benefits, and the hangover is better than from wine!”
