It seems all we ever read about are ways to protect ourselves from the sun-rarely do we come across information on how to use the sun’s benefits. As important as it is to protect our skin from the its damaging rays, the sun is also good for us in some ways, and spending about 15 minutes a day outside, three to four times a week, is beneficial to our health.
The sun is a natural antibacterial. Therefore, it is good for healing that zit you’ve been trying to get rid of all weekend. Sunshine also helps our bodies make vitamin D-it’s probably the quickest and cheapest way to get the vitamin D we need. Vitamin D helps prevent cancer and wrinkles, and is also a natural antidepressant. So as much as you need to protect your skin from these cancer and wrinkle-inducing rays, receiving the sun’s benefits will also help prevent them. It’s a balancing act!
Keep in mind, tanning too much will block vitamin D. The darker the pigment, the more protection you may have from the sun-but you also lose out on the benefits.
The sun loves and hates us. Just be smart when using this resource!
