The 30-year-old Pitch Perfect star, Brittany Snow, dishes on her big beauty splurge, her favorite product for keeping her skin in check and the campaign she cofounded that spreads an incredibly important message.
NewBeauty: What beauty innovation are you most excited about this year?
Brittany Snow: I go to Amy Rae Esthetics and she has changed my skin. She works with amazing LED lights that help regenerate cells. It sounds fancy, but it’s worth it. I’m not a big spender, but when it comes to my skin, I splurge.
NB: What is the most critical step of your skin care regimen?
BS: For me, applying sunscreen under my makeup is the most important step. Even if you wear all the makeup in the world, it doesn’t mean anything if your skin isn’t healthy. That’s why after I wash my face every morning, I make sure to apply a sunscreen before I put on my makeup.
NB: Does the Pitch Perfect cast share beauty secrets on set?
BS: All of the girls are very low-maintenance. When we are in rehearsals, we never really wear any makeup. Anna Camp’s skin is always glowing so I asked her what she was using. She uses Kate Somerville, so I started using that too.
NB: You’ve recently partnered with Coppertone. Being that you have fair skin, how important is sun protection to you?
BS: Being fair makes me especially diligent about protecting my skin from the sun every day, but people of all skin tones should do the same! It’s so important. Coppertone CLEARLYSheer works perfectly for me—it feels so light and doesn’t clog my pores, which is great for wearing under makeup. I apply it every morning.
NB: Do you think it’s true that the camera adds 10 pounds? How do you stay in shape?
BS: Haha. I find it very weird seeing myself on camera. I don’t know if it adds 10 pounds, but staying in shape is important to me. I love fitness. I run, do SoulCycle two or three times a week and Pilates, and I have an elliptical.
NB: Many women say they notice changes in their skin and body when they hit 30. Do you agree?
BS: For my skin, I find that making sure that I’m super diligent about sun protection is just as essential now as it was when I was 20. I have noticed that not drinking enough water or staying up late affects how I look. When I was 20, those things never really showed. Now, I am like, “I need three bottles of water and a nap!”
NB: What are your can’t-live-without beauty products?
BS: Coppertone CLEARLYSheer is a must-have for me—it’s a great multitasker. Other than that, some of my go-tos include Laura Mercier Concealer, coconut oil for my hair and Kérastase masks and hair products.
NB: Your anti-bullying movement, Love Is Louder, has an important message. What do you hope to achieve?
BS: Love is Louder supports anyone who feels mistreated, misunderstood or alone. We want to get the message across that love and support are louder and more effective than those voices that try to bring us down. It’s a really great organization that addresses issues like bullying and negative self-image—we want people to know that they are loved and not alone.
NB: What is something your fans would be surprised to learn about you?
BS: It’s weird to me to call anyone a fan. I really appreciate people who enjoy my work though. I am very bad with technology and love anything old-school. I still use a pen and paper to write down anything no matter what. I collect journals and notepads. My friends say that if you want to see a happy girl, take me to Staples.
NB: What do you like to do when you’re not working?
BS: I am always watching movies and documentaries. I love decorating, sketching and photography. My happy place is going to a concert. For me, there’s nothing better. I relax by going on walks with my dog and listening to music outside.
NB: What upcoming projects are you working on that we can look forward to?
BS: A comedy I did called Late Bloomer is coming out with J.K. Simmons and Johnny Simmons, directed by Kevin Pollack. I also did an action movie called Bushwick with Dave Bautista that was a ton of fun, and a documentary-type movie with my friend Andrew Jenks called Black Dog that takes a look at depression. And, I recently started a production company called Pun Intended Productions and I am directing my first music video/promo video in a couple of weeks.
