Known to temporarily darken, thicken and lengthen lashes, the effects of mascara can be subtle or dramatic, depending on the formula and brush that you use. “Mascara used to be all about the formula, but, today it’s also about the brush and delivery system,” says Romero Jennings, MAC senior artist. But no matter which mascara you use, application is crucial for accentuating your lashes. Here are our directions for applying mascara:
Curl your lashes. “Even if they are already curly, this will give you uniformity so that your lashes look controlled and not tangled,” says Jennings.
Apply lash primer, which is usually white or clear, to help set the curl and keep it in place while adding structure and volume.
Using the tip of the wand, apply mascara in a zigzag motion, building the formula at the base. Wipe off any excess product and use the wand from the middle of the lash to the tip.
