You know how great you feel about yourself when you look good, so just imagine how a cancer patient must feel when they find a way to overcome the physical changes that come with the disease and its treatment. That great feeling is the goal of Look Good-Feel Better, a program sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation, and the National Cosmetology Association.
Founded in 1989, Look Good-Feel Better has grown to support patients in all 50 states through enjoyable group sessions, one-on-one sessions, self-help kits and a hotline. In addition to their original program for women, they now offer programs for teens and men in several states. From skincare to makeup to choosing a wig, this extraordinary organization teaches cancer patients tips specifically geared at adapting to the changes. These tips not only make them look better, they also make them feel significantly better when they see themselves in a way they haven’t-and thought they couldn’t-in a long time.
Each year, beauty brands like Clarins, Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, Stila, Neutrogena, L’Oreal, Almay and Shiseido donate over a million individual products to the cause. Licensed beauty professionals volunteer all over the country to bring simple yet deeply impacting joy to cancer patients.
