We’re in the first official week of December, which means the holiday party invites are rolling in and New Year’s Eve is just around boughs of holly-corner.
With so many fabulous occasions to attend, we thought you might like some hairstyle inspiration for your tresses this year. Enter Goldwell Art Director John C. Simpson, who shares with us how to copy Emily Blunt’s party-perfect cascading up sweep:
Step 1: Start by applying a lightweight gel to damp hair from scalp to ends to add texture. Use a flat brush and blow dry
Step 2: When your hair is almost dry, spray a heat protectant like Goldwell StyleSign Sleek Perfection ($16) through mid-length and ends. This will not only offer heat and color protection, but will add shine. Continue to blow dry.
Step 3: Spray a light amount of workable hairspray-we love Sojourn Firm Hold Working Spray ($24)-to the entire head. Starting at the back of the head towards the nape of the neck, then traveling up in two-by-two inch horizontal sections, create vertical curls. Keep all curls wound in the same direction.
Step 4: Spray again and gently separate waves with a wide tooth comb
Step 5: Finally, take both sections of the sides and back, gently twist, crisscross and pin into place. Make sure not to pin too tight, you want the style loose and easy, leaving out some face framing curls.
